Position Overview

The Facility Caretaker is responsible for the day-to-day upkeep, maintenance, and cleanliness of the church buildings and grounds. This role ensures that the church remains a safe, clean, and welcoming space for worship, ministry activities, and community events.

Key Responsibilities

Facility Maintenance and Upkeep (20%)

  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on plumbing, carpentry and appliances.

  • Carry out basic handyman tasks such as painting, fixing fixtures, and replacing light bulbs.

  • Monitor and address general wear and tear to maintain the facility's appearance and functionality.

Cleaning and Custodial Duties (50%)

  • Ensure the church building is clean and orderly, including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing restrooms.

  • Empty trash bins, replenish supplies, and maintain storage areas in an organized manner.

  • Set up and clean up spaces for church services, events, and other activities.

Grounds Maintenance (5%)

  • Maintain the church grounds, including lawn care, landscaping, snow removal, and clearing walkways when needed.

  • Perform routine upkeep of parking lots, outdoor signage, and external building areas.

Equipment and Inventory Management (10%)

  • Regularly inspect tools, equipment, and appliances to ensure they are in working order.

  • Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies, maintenance tools, and repair materials.

  • Report larger repair needs or equipment replacements to church leadership.

Safety and Security (15%)

  • Secure the building by locking doors, setting alarms, and monitoring for any security concerns.

  • Respond promptly to emergencies such as leaks, power outages, security alarms and/or other urgent facility issues.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; basic technical or trade skills preferred.

  • Previous experience in facility maintenance, janitorial services, or similar roles.

  • Proficiency in both English and Chinese (Mandarin) is highly preferred.

  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general repair tasks.

  • Strong work ethic, team spirit, reliability, and attention to detail.

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and perform repetitive physical tasks.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends or evenings as needed.

 

Preferred Skills and Attributes

  • A heart for service and a commitment to the church’s mission and values.

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in addressing facility needs.

  • Familiarity with tools and equipment used in basic maintenance and cleaning.
